Presence in Silence
Director: Betty Yang, Jinbo Shen
In this project, we tested various materials that can reflect light. Finally, we installed the spotlight in the device we made with blue translucent plastic plates. Using some motors and Arduino, the device starts to rotate left and right at a fixed angle when people pass by. In an almost dark environment, the blue-refracted light presented by the device is the effect we ultimately want the audience to see.
(This was a group project, in which the PDF layout design and video editing were completed by me alone, and the other parts were completed by the two of us together.)
This is an installation inspired by the use of human beings' left and right brains. According to the study of my team member Jinbo and me, we know that the left brain of human beings is responsible for the rational and logical part of our daily activities, while the right brain focuses more on sensibility and art.
In the modern noisy society, people often feel stressed and sentimental because of social media, work, and living environment, and are easily trapped in this negative emotion. Our installation presentation wants everyone to experience inner peace through light, shadow, and color in a closed, dark space. Try not to use our emotional right brain to think too much at this moment, but find a balance between the use of the left and right brains and the peace of the moment.
